Before Intravenous Anesthesia or Sedation

At home instructions before anesthesia

1. You may NOT have anything to eat or drink (including water) 6 hours before your surgery appointment
2. No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to   the day of surgery
3. A parent or legal guardian must accompany any patient under 18 years of age to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and drive the patient home
4. The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience
5. Please wear a short sleeved shirt or t-shirt and well-fitting shoes.  No flip-flops, slides or high heels.  Stable footing is important for patient safety
6. Do not wear any piercings that involve the face and mouth.  Smaller earrings are able to be left in
7. If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office
8. If you take routine oral medications, please check with Dr. Jacks prior to your surgical date for instructions
